Aubeterre, France
2010 -- Philip Oliver - "Oli" is an abstract painter. He is based out of southwestern France where he has lived for many years before leaving Great Britain where was born and where he attended both Winchester School of Art & Art Ipswich Art College. From 1991 to 1994 he established (& co-directed) Minto/Jamaica St Studios Bristol: an artists co-operative providing studio spaces for artists & various projects including exhibitions, talks & events including study visits in Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo, Florence, Rome, as well as inBerlin. Moving to France, Oli's work further defined itself. It emerges out of a tradition of non-figurative painting: it is multi-layered in both form and content. He is fundamentally concerned with the relationship between the physical, psychological & spiritual being; he focuses on exploring the lines of communication where points of contact and drifts in meaning occur. He has participated in numerous group & solo exhibitions throughout Europe including shows England, France, Holland & Spain.
