On the Road: Moselle Valley, circa 2015
The Moselle Valley is a region located in the east of France and Luxembourg, and is known for its breathtaking landscapes, charming towns, and rich history. The Moselle River has been a major thoroughfare in the region since the Middle Ages, and its banks have been home to many settlements and civilizations throughout the centuries. The area has a long and varied history, with evidence of early human settlements dating back to the Stone Age. During the Roman Empire, the Moselle Valley was an important route for trade and transportation. In the Middle Ages, the area was divided between the Germanic and Roman Empires, and the various towns along the Moselle River became important centers of trade and commerce. During the Renaissance, the region flourished, and the cities of Metz, Nancy, and Thionville became important cultural and economic hubs. In the 19th century, the Moselle Valley was annexed by the German Empire, and the area experienced a period of industrialization. Today, the Moselle Valley is home to many charming towns and villages, and its history and culture remain an important part of the region.
